This advice is directed to foreigners who plan to stay for an extended period, maybe months or a couple of years, or permanently.

That said, some of these insights can be valuable if you plan to stay just for a couple of days or weeks.

Colombia is like six countries in one: cultures, accents, and customs are different and varied. It’s important to point out that the social dynamics in Medellín work differently to other parts of Colombia.

Social hierarchy, status, and connections are more important than money here; your social circle is your most important asset.

Lonely gringos who come here end up sad and disappointed since they think they can lone-wolf it and realize it almost never works, even if they spend obscene amounts of cash.
