So, Where Do Locals Go to Party Now?
Medellín's nightlife scene has changed as tourism has increased…
El Poblado's party areas have evolved into global party hotspots. Paisa-frequented clubs and 'Discotecas' have now been completely overrun by foreigners, particularly on weekends.
Some places in Provenza have become boring tourist traps.
When most of the people in a club are foreigners, the Latino vibe (dancing and having fun) fades away. You'll only find groups of male tourists looking for attractive local girls, ready to pounce.
A confession: local Paisa girls no longer frequent these kinds of spots. The main reason is that they don't want to be harassed by a Gringo in flip-flops and shorts, or an unwashed European backpacker.
Another reason is that Paisa women (and other Latinas) place a high value on hygiene, and they avoid these venues because some foreigners do not shower before going.
How can you go to a steamy club without showering?
Still, if you know where to look, you can find incredible places packed with local people having a great time.
Also, keep in mind that natives usually don't mind foreigners. They are welcome to participate in the party as long as they are respectful and having fun.
Coming to Medellín, one of LatAm's top party destinations, makes little sense if you end up in a club with a bunch of foreigners. Boring…
Avoid these places in Provenza (and the best clubs for local Paisas you should visit).
